Mas Bosc is a restored modernista estate in the forest above Castellnou de Bages, about an hour north of Barcelona, that you rent in full for a whole wedding weekend, for up to around 160 guests.

I photographed a wedding at Mas Bosc, and this is the guide I would want before booking it: where it really is, every space, the real numbers, and the one thing to build your day around here, which is the sunset.

Still comparing venues? I also keep a guide to the best wedding venues near Barcelona, and a bigger one to the best wedding venues in Spain.

Where Is Mas Bosc and What Makes It So Special?

Mas Bosc sits in the forest on the edge of Castellnou de Bages, in the Bages, in the province of Barcelona, about an hour north of the city and five minutes from the town of Súria.

This is inland, rural Catalonia, not the metro area, and that is the appeal: the house stands alone in the woods, with long views and no neighbours, on the side of the valley where the sun goes down. The estate was renovated inside and out in 2020, so you get an old house with the comfort of a new one.

The house itself is the story. It is a modernista mansion built in 1913 for the industrialist Magí Gallifa, and its design is tied to Ignasi Oms i Ponsa, the architect behind much of modernista Manresa. The green-tiled facade is its signature, and it makes a backdrop you will not find anywhere else. You can see it all on the venue’s own website.

What Wedding Spaces Does Mas Bosc Offer?

Mas Bosc offers two outdoor ceremony settings, a large threshing floor and porch, an interior patio, a climate-controlled hall for the weather, and an infinity pool that looks straight at the sunset.

Because you have the whole estate to yourselves, the spaces are less a fixed floor plan and more a set of scenes you move between over the day. Here is how each one works.

The Garden and the Grove: Where You Say I Do

The ceremony happens outdoors, and you choose between two settings: The Garden, a lawn that looks back at the green-tiled facade of the house, or The Grove, a smaller, more intimate clearing in the woods beside it.

If you want bright, vibrant colour, choose The Garden without hesitation: the open lawn with the modernista house behind you takes the light beautifully. The Grove has a more mysterious, mystical character, but the deep shade there mutes the colours, and that shows in the photos. My advice is the lawn, and to play with the open light. Either way you are outside, in the woods, with the whole estate to yourselves.

The Threshing Floor and the Porch

The main celebration space is La Era, the old threshing floor of 330 square metres, opening onto a covered porch of 70 square metres, with the green-tiled facade in view. It works for the cocktail, the dinner or the party.

It is the heart of the estate on the day: big enough for a full banquet, open to the porch for shade and shelter, and framed by the house. The porch matters more than it sounds, because it gives you a covered edge without moving the party indoors.

The Patio and the Hall

You also have two more spaces to build the day around: El Patio, a 200 square metre interior courtyard for the cocktail, dinner or dancing, and La Sala, a 200 square metre climate-controlled indoor hall that is your wet-weather plan.

La Sala is the one to ask about early. It is bright and comfortable in any season, and it means a bad forecast never cancels the day: if the weather turns, the dinner and the party move inside without losing the feel of the place.

The Infinity Pool at Sunset

The infinity pool is the signature of Mas Bosc, and it is built on the side of the estate that faces the sunset, so it is the obvious place for the cocktail hour in the last light of the day.

This is the picture couples book Mas Bosc for: drinks by the pool, the valley dropping away, the sun going down straight ahead. It is also the single reason to plan your timeline carefully, and I come back to that in the tips below.

The House and Its Seven Bedrooms

Mas Bosc has seven en-suite bedrooms, six doubles and a triple, so you and your closest people get ready and sleep at the estate rather than driving in from a hotel.

Getting ready in the house changes the whole morning: no hotel room, no logistics, just the estate waking up around you. The rooms sleep about sixteen, and the estate is yours for the weekend. One tip from experience: get ready in the central hall that the bedrooms open onto, not in the rooms themselves, and I explain why in the tips below.

How Many Guests Can Mas Bosc Host?

Mas Bosc hosts up to around 160 guests, with some listings quoting up to 180, and a minimum of about 20 for an intimate group. It only ever hosts one wedding at a time.

Here is what the venue’s listings publish:

  • Ceremony and banquet: up to 160, with some sources listing 180
  • Minimum: around 20 guests
  • La Era (threshing floor): 330 square metres, plus a 70 square metre porch
  • El Patio / La Sala: 200 square metres each
  • Exclusivity: one wedding a day, the whole estate is yours

Where these figures come from: the capacities are from the venue’s own website and its wedding listings in 2026, where the maximum is given as 160 in one place and 180 in another. If your list is near that, confirm the exact seated maximum with the venue for your date and layout.

What Is the Catering Like at Mas Bosc?

Catering at Mas Bosc is not exclusive: you bring your own caterer, and the estate has a catering kitchen on site, with a cold room, water points and a generator, so your team has everything they need.

Free choice of caterer is a real advantage. It is where you shape both the budget and the food, and it lets you bring a chef who fits your style rather than accepting a single in-house menu. You can bring your own wedding cake with no surcharge, and there is a licensed bar. Ask the venue for their list of trusted caterers as a starting point.

What Is Included in a Mas Bosc Wedding?

A Mas Bosc wedding is a whole-estate, multi-day hire. You get the entire property to yourselves, the modernista house with its seven bedrooms, the ceremony spaces, the threshing floor and porch, the patio, the hall, the pool and the forest, usually for a minimum two-night stay.

  • The whole estate in full exclusivity, one wedding at a time
  • Seven en-suite bedrooms that sleep about sixteen, with the estate yours for the weekend
  • All the spaces: The Garden, The Grove, La Era and the porch, El Patio, La Sala and the pool
  • A catering kitchen for your team, on-site parking, and a host on the day (not a wedding planner)

Ask them to confirm three things in writing: exactly how many nights are included and the price of extra nights, what time the music has to stop, and whether VAT is included in the quote.

What Are My Insider Tips for a Mas Bosc Wedding?

My biggest tip for Mas Bosc is a timing one: plan to sit down for dinner right as the sun sets. The pool and the best light are on the west side of the estate, so if you anchor the dinner to sunset, everything else falls into the right light.

Sit down for dinner at sunset, and take the sunset photos just before. The mistake I have seen here is slotting the sunset portraits into a fixed spot earlier in the evening: weddings always run late, the day slips, and by the time you make those photos it is already too dark. Anchor the dinner to sunset instead. The golden-hour portraits then happen naturally right before you sit down, in the light you came for, and if the day runs a little late you can stretch it and still catch it.

Keep the cocktail at the pool. That west-facing infinity pool is the reason to book Mas Bosc, so put the cocktail hour there, running into the sunset, and use it for the couple portraits.

Get ready in the hall, not the bedrooms. The rooms are comfortable but not huge, and the bed sits right in front of the window, which is exactly where a photographer wants to work with natural light. Use the central hall that the bedrooms open onto instead: it is the calm, bright space for the important getting-ready photos. A good plan is to let one of you get ready there first, then head out relaxed with the guests while the other finishes in the same room.

Light the outdoor dinner. Dinner outside can go dark once the sun is down. If the venue allows it, spend on plenty of candles, because it changes both the mood and the photos.

Plan your route before you leave. Phone signal is patchy up here, and it is a good stretch of mountain curves to reach the estate, so download the directions in advance rather than relying on getting them on the way. Tell your guests to do the same.

Treat it as a weekend, not a day. You have the house and its bedrooms for two nights, so use the night before for a welcome dinner and the morning after for a slow breakfast in the forest.

Plan the wet-weather version on purpose. Agree with the venue how the dinner and party move into La Sala if the forecast turns, so a storm is a detail and not a crisis.

Bring the right caterer. Since catering is your choice, this is where the day is won or lost. Ask the venue for their trusted list and taste before you commit.

Where Do Wedding Guests Stay at Mas Bosc?

Mas Bosc has seven en-suite bedrooms on site, sleeping about sixteen, so your closest people stay at the estate and everyone else stays nearby in Súria, a few minutes away, or in Manresa, about twenty minutes on.

That split works well: the wedding party wakes up at the estate, and the rest of your guests stay in town and drive up for the day. Book rooms early for peak summer dates, and plan a shuttle for the end of the night, because the estate sits up a forest road with no taxis passing by.

What Is a Wedding Weekend at Mas Bosc Like?

A wedding at Mas Bosc is a private weekend in the forest. You arrive the day before, settle into the house, and often gather your closest guests for a welcome dinner before the day itself.

When I photographed a wedding here, the day moved with the light: the ceremony outdoors with the modernista house behind, the cocktail hour by the pool as the sun dropped into the valley, and the dinner and the party carrying on into the night, with the whole estate to the couple and no neighbours to worry about.

That is the real difference from a one-day venue: at Mas Bosc the wedding has room to breathe, the light does the work, and the estate is yours for all of it.

What Should Your Mas Bosc Photographer Know?

A photographer at Mas Bosc plans around the light, and the estate rewards you for staying in the open rather than hiding in the shade. The colour and the light here are beautiful when you work with them.

The open lawn, the pool and the west-facing side of the estate are where it sings: warm light on the house in the late afternoon and blue hour over the pool as the sun drops into the valley. The forest and the grove are atmospheric, but the deep shade mutes the colour, so I use them sparingly and keep the important frames in the open, luminous light. The single most important frame of the evening, the sunset over the pool, is the one to build the timeline around.

Plan the portraits and the cocktail for the last hour of light by the pool, and time the dinner to sunset so the golden hour lands where it should. This is the kind of estate where a wedding photographer around Barcelona who already knows where the light falls, and where it does not, makes a real difference.
