Discover Castell d’Empordà: A Castle Wedding Dream in the Heart of Costa Brava

Castell d’Empordà is a restored medieval castle hotel near La Bisbal in the Empordà, inland Costa Brava, that hosts destination weddings of 50 to 150 guests with olive gardens, a stone hall, a castle courtyard and a pool terrace.

Picture this: exchanging vows in a medieval castle overlooking the rolling hills of Empordà, with the Mediterranean breeze carrying your promises across centuries-old stone walls. It sounds unreal, but it isn’t. Castell d’Empordà is one of the most breathtaking wedding venues in Spain, and I’ve had the privilege of photographing love stories here more times than I can count.

This guide is designed to give you everything you need to know to plan your wedding at Castell d’Empordà, especially if you’re traveling from abroad. From what makes the venue special to practical planning tips, photography insights, and FAQs, it’s all here.

What Wedding Spaces Does Castell d’Empordà Offer?

The Olive Garden

Intimate and timeless. A serene setting for saying “I do” among ancient olive trees. Most of couples choose to have their guests facing the olives trees (with their backs to the castle), but beware there is the parking in one side, so if its low season and you have the hotel for you is better to ask your guests to park the car in the oposite side, allowing you to have photos with a more clean and polished look.

The Main Terrace

Panoramic views that feel endless. Perfect for al fresco dinners and golden hour speeches. Most of the couples choose to have the cocktail here, as guests can enjoy the Empordà views while having their favourite drink.

The Stone Hall

Vaulted ceilings and textured walls make this the ultimate indoor plan B, or a moody-chic dinner option.

Castle Courtyard

Romantic, enclosed, ideal for cocktail hour or private dinners.

Poolside Area

Laid-back, modern, and ideal for your brunch or as a hangover killer.

Bridal Suite

Big, peaceful, and camera-ready for your getting-ready moments. One of my favourite getting ready rooms ever as it offers plenty of space to accomodate your family and friends for you morning rituals, making it super stress free.

Bonus tip: If you can, book multiple nights as they are pretty strict with the timings, being the check in pretty late and the check out pretty early (11am, wich is not ideal if you want to spend a chill after wedding morning).

What Is It Like to Photograph a Wedding at Castell d’Empordà?

Photographing here means golden light on the main terrace at sunset, dramatic shadows in the courtyard, drone shots over the olive fields and bridal portraits framed by arched stone hallways, all within one property.

As a photographer, Castell d’Empordà is a visual playground:

  • Golden light spills over the main terrace during sunset

  • Courtyard portraits with dramatic shadows and lines

  • Elevated drone shots over the olive fields

  • Bridal portraits framed by arched stone hallways

  • Sparkler exits that turn into fairytales under the stars

Every season offers something different, from spring blooms to autumn textures. Knowing when and where to shoot makes all the difference.

Why Hire a Photographer Who Knows Castell d’Empordà?

There’s something about this place that changes with the light. Knowing its rhythms is key.

  • I know where the light hits just right throughout the day

  • I understand the pacing of events across the different spaces

  • I can direct you subtly, so you feel natural but the photos look editorial

  • I have shortcuts for avoiding tourist timing and getting those clean, cinematic shots
