Imagine saying “I do” in a 15th-century castle, surrounded by gardens that look like they’re straight out of a movie. Castell de Caramany isn’t just another wedding venue in Girona, it’s that magical place where dreams come true.

As a wedding photographer with years of experience capturing unique moments in this castle, I’ve seen how every couple falls in love with this special corner of Empordà. And believe me, I understand perfectly why.

Located in Corçà, just 45 minutes from Barcelona and 20 minutes from Girona, this castle catalogued as a Cultural Asset of National Interest combines the majesty of medieval architecture with gardens that will leave you breathless.

See how it compares in my guide to castle wedding venues in Spain.

Why Castell de Caramany is Perfect for Your Wedding

A Classic French Château in the Heart of Spain

The first thing that takes your breath away when you arrive at Castell de Caramany is its stunning resemblance to a classic French château. This isn’t your typical Spanish castle, it’s an architectural gem that looks like it was transported directly from the Loire Valley, complete with elegant towers, graceful proportions, and expansive manicured gardens that stretch as far as the eye can see.

The castle sits majestically amid sprawling grounds that feel endless, with perfectly landscaped gardens that provide countless romantic backdrops. It’s this unique combination, the grandeur of French château architecture set against the beautiful Spanish countryside, that makes Castell de Caramany truly one of a kind.

A Castle with History and Character

Castell de Caramany isn’t one of those modern venues trying to look ancient. It’s an authentic 15th-century castle, with walls that have witnessed five hundred years of history. Every stone, every corner has something special to tell.

What strikes me most as a photographer is how the English architecture blends perfectly with the French-inspired gardens. It’s like having two completely different styles that somehow create perfect harmony.

Total Exclusivity: Your Day, Your Castle

One of the things couples value most is that Castell de Caramany only hosts one event per day. This means the castle is completely yours from the moment you arrive until you leave. No rushing, no other weddings nearby, no annoying noise.

This exclusivity shows in everything: from the tranquility for taking photos to the complete freedom to organize timing as you wish.

Perfect Location for Guests

If you have guests coming from different places, the castle’s location is ideal. It’s close enough to Barcelona to avoid a tiring journey, but far enough away to feel like you’re in another world.

Plus, if some of your guests want to stay a few extra days, they have the Costa Brava just a step away and charming towns like Girona to explore.

Castell de Caramany Spaces: Where Every Moment Has Its Perfect Place

For the Ceremony: Three Spectacular Options

The French Gardens: Without a doubt, my favorite for outdoor ceremonies. The light filtering through the centuries-old trees creates a magical atmosphere, especially at sunset. I’ve photographed ceremonies here where the couple seemed to be starring in a romantic movie.

The Fountain Courtyard: If you’re looking for something more intimate but equally spectacular, this covered space is perfect. The sound of water in the background adds that natural soundtrack that makes the moment even more special.

The Interior Halls: For winter ceremonies or if you prefer something more traditional, the castle’s halls with their centuries-old ceilings create a solemn and elegant atmosphere.

💡 Bonus Tip for Religious Ceremonies: If you want a religious ceremony, you have perfect options very close by. The church of Corçà is literally a 1-minute walk from the castle, your guests can walk there without problems. For larger groups, I recommend the church of Torroella de Montgrí, which is less than 15 minutes by car and spectacular for ceremonies with many guests.

For Cocktail Hour: Spaces That Invite SMArt ConversationS

Cocktail hour is that moment when your guests relax, chat, and begin to truly enjoy themselves. At Castell de Caramany you have several options:

  • The Front Terrace: With garden views, and next to the castle main’s door. Perfect for spring and autumn cocktails, or when the sun is not to high, as this part will be under shadow. This part also allows to put a tent in case of rain.
  • Around the Pool: A modern touch in a historic setting that works surprisingly well
  • The English Garden: If you want
  • The Interior Courtyards: More intimate, ideal if you want to create different atmospheres, or in case of rain.

Your dinner can go from more classic to something boho or chic, as you have plenty of options. You can choose between:

  • The Upstairs Salons: For more intimate and elegant banquets
  • The Gardens: If you prefer dining under the stars (with backup plan included).
  • The Dinner Salon: The newest addition to the Caramany Castle, where most of the dinners take place nowadays, offers many styling options.

FIRST DANCE AND PARTY

For the First Dance you have plenty of options, the usuals are:

  • The Round Area in the French Gardens: A romantic circular space surrounded by centuries-old trees
  • The Entrance Courtyard: Grand and impressive for a dramatic first dance
  • The Fountain Courtyard: Intimate with the gentle sound of water as your soundtrack
  • The Cave: Unique and atmospheric for couples just wanting to get the party started

For the Party is where the spaces are more limited, due to noise restrictions:

  • The Cave: The main party area that creates an incredible underground celebration atmosphere with amazing acoustics, but can feel a bit small and hot
  • The Banquet Area: Only recommended for very, very large weddings where you need the extra space, though the cave remains the preferred party spot

Real Pros and Cons of Castell de Caramany: The Unfiltered Truth

What You'll Love

Total Flexibility: You can customize every detail without restrictions. Want a bohemian style? Perfect. Prefer something classic and elegant? Also works. The castle adapts to any style.

Multiple Spaces: Every moment of your wedding can have its own setting. Ceremony in the gardens, cocktail on the terrace, dinner in the hall, dancing under the stars.

The Human Team: Paqui and her team are those people who make everything flow, as you meet her you will fall in love with her, I can promise you. As a photographer, I’ve worked with her many times and she always make things easier for everybody. But remember, even if she makes everything easier for everybody she is not your weding planner. If you need one you will have to hire one separetelly.

Private Parking: Seems like a minor detail, but when you have 150 guests, having private and secure parking is a huge relief.

Challenges to Consider

No On-Site Accommodation: You’ll need to find hotels or rural houses nearby for you and your guests. The good news is there are very nice options in the area.

Limited Accessibility: Some areas of the castle have steps and aren’t completely accessible for people with reduced mobility. It’s important to mention this if you have guests who need it.

Weather Dependency: If you choose outdoor spaces, you’ll need a backup plan for rain. Tents are available, but they involve extra cost.

Additional Costs: The rental price is just the beginning. Adding catering, decoration, music, and photography, the total budget can rise considerably.
